SARAJEVO, September 23 (FENA) - The European Week of Sport 2019 in Bosnia and Herzegovina is going to be marked with a series of events, with the central events announced for September 29 in Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka. On the same day, part of the program will be held on Mount Jahorina.

Assistant Minister for Sports at the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs Anđa Kalem Perić highlighted the importance of this sporting event at a press conference in Sarajevo, saying it was intended 'for all of us, for the benefits brought by physical activity.'

She stressed the support of the European Commission, which recognized the importance of physical activities as an integral part of life.

Velibor Lazarević from the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs recalled that the European Sports Week is taking place from September 23 to September 30 and will officially open in Finland, which chairs the European Commission this year.

Ajša Adrović Bešlagić from the EU Delegation to BiH emphasized that the European Sports Week is an initiative of the European Commission to promote sports and physical activity, being held across Europe for the fifth time this year, aiming to promote physical activity and healthy living.

She says the sporting initiative is, in fact, the European Commission's response to the rise in obesity in children and the general population, which is a consequence of not enough physical activity.

The European Sports Week in Bosnia and Herzegovina is taking place for the second time. It will entail a number of events across the country, participants of various ages, and among others, it is also planned to organize a group hike to Velež Mountain.

European Sports Week is being marked in 42 countries this year, with more than 13 million participants announced. The main slogan of the campaign is #BeActive, and the intention is to encourage the population to be active throughout the year.
