Crnadak to point out issue of radioactive waste disposal at Trgovska gora

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 9 (FENA) - BiH Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak will lead the BiH delegation at the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to draw attention after four years, in the highest international body for nuclear energy, under the auspices of the United Nations, to the issue of the disposal of radioactive waste at location of Trgovska gora, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency takes place in Vienna from 16 to 20 September.

At the IAEA General Conference in 2015, Crnadak pointed out a problem related to Trgovska gora, which was recorded in that organization, followed by intensive activities of the institutions of BiH, Republika Srpska, Federation of BiH and local communities in the fight against the intention of the Republic of Croatia build a landfill of medium-radioactive nuclear waste from Krško Nuclear Power Plant at the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, near Novi Grad. It is estimated that the disposal of radioactive waste would directly threaten several hundred thousand people in nine municipalities in the Una River basin.

Minister Crnadak and the BiH delegation will once again draw attention to this issue in order for the Republic of Croatia to withdraw its intention to build a landfill at the border with BiH.
