FENA Hazim Aljović

SARAJEVO, September 6 (FENA) - Regardless of opinion on the LGBTI population, ideologically, religiously or otherwise, Bosnia-Herzegovina society must not allow hate speech and violence, said Samra Filipović-Hadžiabdić, Director of the Gender Equality Agency of BiH.

She presented the publication "Policing Hate Crime against LGBTI Persons: Training for a Professional Police Response", and she said the handbook is a training tool, a professional police response to hate speech, which is evidently present in BiH society.

“Publication of this handbook resulted from the need to draw attention of competent authorities and public to issues of prevention and protection of hate crimes,” emphasized Filipović-Hadžiabdić.

She also thanked the Islamic Community of BiH for calling for non-violence during pride march planned for Sunday.

Spokeswoman of the SC MoI Suvada Kuldija stressed the importance of educated police officers.

Publication of the Handbook is result of the cooperation of the Gender Equality Agency of BiH, the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH with the Council of Europe's Department of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI Unit) in Strasbourg.
