SC MoI: We are taking all necessary steps to keep public events safe

SARAJEVO, September 6 (FENA) - Police in Sarajevo is taking all necessary steps to ensure that announced public events are held in dignity and peace over the weekend, it is stated today at a press conference at the SC Ministry of Interior.

Head of the PR Office of the SC Police Directorate, Mirza Hadžiabdić, said that there are three public events happening this weekend. On Saturday, September 7, "Traditional Family Day" event is announced, starting at 2 pm organized by a citizens' association 'Svjetlo', which also includes walking down Marsala Tita Street from the ‘Eternal Flame’ monument to the Parliament of BiH building.

On Sunday, September 8, ‘Iskorak’ Initiative Association announced an event between 10am and 11.30am, organized as a "form of expression of opposition to the promotion of LGBTIQ ideas" and the event is planned at the location of Ciglane Park, from Alipašina Street to Sutjeska Street.

The third public event called "Door, please", the first BiH Pride March is also planned for Sunday, September 8, and the participants will walk from the ‘Eternal Flame’ monument, continue down the Marsala Tita Street to BiH Square in front of the building of the Parliament of BiH between 12 and 2 pm.

Sarajevo police said that each event carries a certain degree of risk and that they will act accordingly. They noted that more than thousand police officers will be engaged, as well as counter-sniper protection.

Head of Police Support Department of the SC MoI Muhamed Hasanović said that based on several months of planning, they have undertaken a number of activities to keep up with the task.

“I urge citizens to be correct and restrained and to submit any potentially risky information in order to carry out a risk assessment,” Hasanović added.

The Police Directorate of the SC Ministry of Interoir and the SC Ministry of Transport will inform citizens today about all details related to the event, that is, the changed regime of traffic during the weekend at the places of these public events.
