SARAJEVO, September 2 (FENA) - The parade of the demobilized soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Kovači Memorial Complex was held today to mark the 27th anniversary of the formation of the RBiH Army First Corps.
The Sarajevo Canton Minister of Veterans Affairs Ismir Jusko stressed that today's anniversary has been a top priority when it comes to marking significant events that have taken place over the past four months.
“It is our priority because, on this day, the Presidency of the RBiH has decided to form the First Corps of the Army of the RBiH by consolidating the units that used to be part of the Territorial Defense, the Patriotic League and the reserve force of the Ministry of Interior,” Jusko reminded.
He added that, apart from their primary task being to defend Sarajevo during the aggression in the past war, members of the First Corps had fought at almost all the battlefields throughout BiH and that 6,585 of them had given their lives in combat.
Among the former members of the First Corps of the Army of the RBiH, 472 were awarded the highest recognition in war, the Golden Lily, 29 were awarded the highest state honors by the BiH Presidency, and 19 of them were awarded the Silver Shield.
