Grubeša: Any potential crime and misuse in 'Aluminij' must be investigated

FENA Press release

MOSTAR, September 1 (FENA) - The BiH Justice Minister Josip Grubeša says that any possible criminal activities and malpractice in Mostar based company 'Aluminij' need to be investigated and prosecuted if they are proven because the rule of law must function in BiH.

"The competent judicial and other institutions should and must hold responsible all those who, through their actions and possible misuses, have led the company into a debt of 400 million KM and ultimately to the termination of production. All those who have worked against the law, abused their position, or authority should be held accountable," said Grubeša commenting on the situation in 'Aluminij' and possible future judicial decisions given that the prosecution is investigating certain individuals and the financial police are checking the business operations of the company.

"We are witnessing that 'Aluminij', as one of the most important and strategic companies in BiH, is going through the biggest crisis since its existence. The final shutdown of 'Aluminij' would have unforeseeable consequences for the entire BiH economy, as well as direct damage beyond the borders of the country," said Grubeša.

He believes the state must stand with the company and help it "get back on its feet".

"One of the steps is to move ahead with a new 'Aluminij', unburdened with problems, with new investors. And on the other hand, the judiciary should include all the competent institutions and measures and investigate all irregularities in business operations so far. Only in this way will we be able to witness the salvation of this important company and its revitalization in the future, we hope in the best and most sustainable way," said Grubeša and noted that he advocates for any potential crime and abuse to be investigated and prosecuted if proven.

"It is important for BiH to function as a country of the rule of law and to send a message to everyone that it is safe, among other things, for future investments. We must look towards the future, not the past, as it is, unfortunately, a common case in BiH," concluded Minister Grubeša, stated the HDZ BiH press service.
