MOSTAR, June 5 (FENA) - Photo reporters and journalists of ‘Bljesak’, ‘Dnevni avaz’ and internet portal ‘Klix’ were attacked today in Mostar at a site where an explosion occurred this morning in this city.
On Wednesday morning, while taking photos of the site of the incident where an unknown person threw an explosive, journalists were first assaulted verbally and then physically, in the presence of police officers who were conducting crime scene investigation.
The attacked journalists say they were in a public place, outside the area marked by police barrier tapes.
The Ministry of Interior of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton confirmed that the attack has been documented and that criminal charges were filed against the attacker.
The Managing Board of the Association BH Journalists and the HelpLine for Assistance to Journalists condemned the physical attack and endangering the safety of journalist Meliha Smajkić from Mostar and verbal threats addressed to journalists of the web portals Klix and ‘Bljesak’.
The BH Journalists' Managing Board deems it as inadmissible to prevent journalists from performing their professional tasks and they especially condemned the brutal form of intimidation and threats against their safety.
At the same time, the attack on journalists in Mostar is a criminal act that demands a thorough police investigation, as well as taking of legal measures against the Husić family whose members have unlawfully violated the right to freedom of expression and the dignified work of journalists and the media, it is said in the statement.
