SARAJEVO, February 28 (FENA) – Members of the BiH Presidency Šefik Džaferović and Željko Komšić hosted a reception in Sarajevo tonight to mark the BiH Independence Day.

Komšić addressed the guests and said that our country has always been known by its historic battle for preservation of independence, sovereignty and integrity and by good people who lived and still live in it today.

He added that February 29th and March 1st will remain written in our history forever, because “on these days majority of citizens of our country clearly gave their voice for independent Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

He reminded that the question asked then was “are you for sovereign and independent BiH, state of equal citizens, peoples of BiH – Muslims, Serbs, Croats and members of other people who live in it?”, adding it does not hurt to ask this question over and over again, “because it is a reminder of what kind of country its citizens wanted, and I believe want today.”

He added we must all work on strengthening of BiH as a civic state, state of equal individuals and equal collectives.

He said he is aware that we cannot solve all problems over night. We need and have an obligation to use the opportunity and finally bring BiH in NATO and the European Union, he emphasized.

Member of the BiH Presidency Šefik Džaferović emphasized there are many important dates in history of BiH, but one of them – March 1st, Independence Day holds a special place.

“Voting for independence, people of this country determined the fate of our homeland and its future. There are many difficult temptations and challenges on this path towards independent, sovereign and modern European state of equal peoples. We successfully overcame the most difficult one, which was the aggression after proclamation of independence,” said Džaferović.

He added we should all turn to constructive dialogue based on truth and justice, mutual respect, rule of law, European standards and cooperation for well-being of all of our people.

“Our goal is clear: Bosnia and Herzegovina as member of the European Union and NATO. Despite obstructions and destructive policies, we are moving towards that goal,” said Džaferović and congratulated Independence Day to all citizens.
