SDA-HDZ meeting: Another step closer towards the coalition at all levels

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 13 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović, after a meeting with the delegation of HDZ BiH, led by President of the party, Dragan Čović, told reporters that they have made another step towards entering a coalition at all levels.

“I believe that we will soon have completed this part of the Bosniak political body as part of that coalition. After the final decision of the SDP last Saturday, we now have more room to turn to other parties in the Bosniak electoral body in the next ten days,” Izetbegović said.

He added that he expects to have the defined coalitions in the first half of March.

The two officials also discussed the constitution of a new convocation of the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament.

“We believe that in the first half of the next week we can have the House of Peoples constituted, so that the budget could be adopted and the House of Peoples at the state level as well,” said the president of the SDA.

He assessed that the atmosphere at the meeting was good and that they are heading in the right direction.

President of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) BiH Dragan Čović said that the political parties’ delegations discussed the cooperation of the two parties, the EU and NATO paths, and the establishment of the government at all levels.

When it comes to the establishment of governments at all levels, he said that it is all going well at the lower levels and that the cooperation is good, and that they are bringing back the trust in one another.

“As far as the Council of Ministers of BiH is concerned, our belief is that we have to do it right away; there is no reason to condition anyone, because that goes to the detriment of all of us,” said Čović.

Regarding the forming of the government at the FBiH level, Čović said that this issue “is far too important for HDZBiH”.

“As soon as the Central Election Commission announces its final decision, and it is announced in the official gazette, I am sure that by the end of next week we will have established the House of Peoples of the Federation of BiH, have the elected representatives to the House of Peoples of the State Parliament and have adopted the budget and the laws that accompany the budget,” said Čović.

The SDA President Bakir Izetbegović, responding to a journalist question, said that the HDZ BiH never conditioned "the Bosniak political body and who is to represent us, nor would we do the same when it comes to the Croat representatives".

“We will probably have meetings with SBB, PDA and A-SDA during next week. We will invite them individually and hold talks. They have the right to act as a bloc and advocate for each other, but we do not intend to speak to them as they are a political bloc,” said the president of the SDA.

Asked if the SBB BiH would be an acceptable partner for the SDA, Izetbegović replied that even since the beginning of the talks, they said that all the political parties are acceptable partners for them.
