FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 30 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, and the Presidency members Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović informed the EU leaders in Brussels today about the ongoing political situation in BiH and the process of constituting the authorities at all levels.

The three of them in their first joint official visit to Brussels had talks with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker and President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

Members of the state Presidency said that this first visit to Brussels confirms the aspirations of BiH on its EU path and that it would continue the focus of the country’s institutions for the coming period, with the aim of fulfilling its obligations to obtain a candidate status during this year.

President Juncker and Commissioner Hahn called for resolving of the existing issues in BiH, such as ending the process of forming the authorities at all levels, and submitting the responses to additional questions from the European Commission Questionnaire.

They called on the members of the BiH Presidency to continue to work on reforms and to maintain political stability while at the same time announcing that BiH would continue to have their strong support on the EU path, the BiH Presidency said.

President Tusk assessed that forming of authorities at all levels in BiH and consistency in implementing reforms would be the best argument for the member states when deciding on the position of BiH in the process of integration into the European Union.

Chairman and members of the BiH Presidency finally emphasized that a positive opinion of the European Commission and a recommendation for obtaining a candidate status this year would be a positive signal for the continuation of the reform processes in BiH.
