Izetbegović: Bosniaks and Croats in RS are fourth or fifth-class citizens

SARAJEVO, January 24 (FENA) - Bosniaks and Croats in Republika Srpska are not second-class, but fourth or fifth-class citizens, said President of the party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović today at a press conference, adding that if this situation does not change soon, precisely he has given a deadline of six months, he would turn to the BiH Constitutional Court.

According to Izetbegović', the ultimate goal is that the name of RS is not equaled with the domination of one nation over the others, but to acknowledge the fact that Bosniaks, as well as Croats also live there.

“This initiative before the Constitutional Court is not about a request to abolish the term “Republika Srpska”, but to underline that this entity also belongs to Bosniaks and Croats. The goal is to bring this fact into the name of the entity,” underlined Izetbegović. .

“What would be the problem for the Bosniaks and Croats living in Republika Srpska to have a sense that the entity belongs to them as well,” he said.

Explaining why this initiative at this given moment, he said that members of the Bosniak and Croat people in Republika Srpska do not have their place in the institutions, there are constant attacks on returnees, insults of Islamic religious officials, and that this entity is often referred as “the second Serbian state in the Balkans”.

“The name Republika Srpska, among other things, serves as a justification for this. In the Constitution, the term Republika Srpska, when translated into English, means nothing in particular, but when it is translated into Serbian, it becomes a tool for many things,” said the SDA leader.

The reasons for bringing about this initiative right now, as he said, are found primarily in the intensification of the attack on Bosnia and Herzegovina, its integrity, symbols and the Euro-Atlantic path. He said it is finally time to say “that is enough”.

The foundations of Republika Srpska are built on the bones of the killed people, the victims of genocide, underlines the president of SDA, adding that the violation of the rights of other nations have continued in that entity and in the post-Dayton BiH.

At the request of journalists to comment on the position of the Office of the High Representative on the initiative to address the Constitutional Court, Izetbegović replied that everyone has the right to his own opinion, but also that he is aware that diplomats generally tend to walk on eggshells.

“Why the OHR is not disturbed by the unconstitutional celebration of January 9 as the “Day of RS”? said Izetbegović by posing a question as a counterargument.

The SDA leader claims that the party he leads would certainly not, for the sake of power, give up the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
