SARAJEVO, December 12 (FENA) - The delegation of the Directorate for Disaster Management and Emergency of the Republic of Turkey (AFAD), led by Deputy Director Hamza Tasdelen, visited today the FBiH Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ), and attended a demonstration exercise "Rescue of the mine victim in an inaccessible terrain" on Mount Trebević near Sarajevo.
During the visit to the headquarters of the FUCZ, representatives of two institutions talked about their future cooperation.
The guests were informed of the organization and structure of civil protection service, demining and operations of removals of the UXO, use of the NICS software which enables more efficient and expeditious exchange of data and information between different participants in the protection and rescue system, and facilitates the allocation of resources and people in conditions of natural and other disasters which has been in use since May 2017.
After the meeting, AFAD delegations went to Mt Trebević with their hosts from the FUCZ by Trebević Cable Car, where members of the FUCZ together with colleagues from the Mt Trebević rescue service demonstrated the rescue of the victim of a mine accident in an inaccessible terrain.
The FUCZ Director Fahrudin Solak told FENA after the exercise that he and his colleagues from AFAD discussed future cooperation, and that the plan is to sign an agreement between the two countries in order to open up possibilities of working together, along with education, and trainings.
AFAD Deputy Director Hamza Tasdelen told FENA that he and his colleagues from FUCZ exchanged experiences of the entire approach in the event of disasters, from disaster prevention, to action in cases of disasters and the ensuing part after a disaster, the rehabilitation of areas that are affected by the catastrophe, etc.
“In addition to this, we had the opportunity to get to know each other a bit better, creating ground for our future cooperation. Disasters do not know any borders so that every form of cooperation is very important and has always been welcome,” said Tasdelen.
He cited an example from the recent past when floods hit BiH in 2014, when "teams from the Republic of Turkey" were among the first teams that provided assistance and came to the rescue.
"We can always do better, therefore it is important to improve communication so that in case of any type of disaster, we can come to aid and assistance to one another,” Tasdelen said.
