SARAJEVO, November 23 (FENA) - The BiH State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), arrested Munib Ahmetspahić on Thursday evening at Sarajevo International Airport, sources close to the investigation told BIRN in BiH.
The sources said Ahmetspahić had spent a long time in the village of Maoča in northeast Bosnia, a known hub for members of the hardline Muslim Wahhabi community.
He had also spent time in the war zones of Iraq and Syria fighting for Islamist forces.
"The person arrested is suspected of staying in Syrian and Iraqi territories as a member of terrorist organizations Al-Nusra Front and ISIL since 2013," Bosnia's State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, said on Friday.
Ahmetspahić was connected also to the attack on the US Embassy in Sarajevo on October 28, 2011, for which the gunman, Mevlid Jašarević, was earlier found guilty.
Ahmetspahić went on trial with Jašarević in 2012, but was acquitted of charges of having participated in the organization of a terrorist group.
