SARAJEVO, October 2 (FENA) - Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Francisco Parodi, said today in Sarajevo that the banking sector is one of the shining and positive segments of the BiH economy.

The BiH banking sector is stable, has adequate reserves and it generates healthy growth, said Parodi.

Parodi took part in the regional conference taking place in Sarajevo on "New regulatory framework in banking - stability of the financial sector, credit rating and economic development of BiH", and emphasized that it is necessary for the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH to pass the law on deposit insurance in BiH banks as soon as possible in order to complete the legislation on the banking sector in BiH.

The conference gathered experts from the field of risk management, board members of European and domestic banks, heads of the banking agencies and the IMF to review the challenges that this sector will encounter in the EU integration process.

Director of the Banking Agency of FBiH Jasmin Mahmuzić said that today's conference should help give an answer to the question what will be happening with the banking sector in the future, because there is a big responsibility on the regulators, as well as the banks’ managements.

The conference has gathered around 150 experts to discuss the idea of new EU regulations, primarily Basel 3 concept, the experiences and lessons learned from banks in Europe, and the perspectives of local banks through presentations, panel discussions and working sessions.
