SARAJEVO, August 30 (FENA) - With a question "Where are they?", citizens of  Sarajevo today marked the International Day of Missing Persons organized by the Red Cross Society of BiH and 18 associations of families of missing persons, who distributed over 3,500 thousand black balloons across Bosnia and Herzegovina carrying this message.

Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation, Željko Filipović, pointed out the families of the missing, for more than 20 years have been looking for their loved ones, unfortunately, many of them have not yet succeeded and the process of the search for the missing gets more and more complicated as time passes.

“The Committee of Red Cross has made a five-year plan providing all the possible resources to generate additional information. We also support the institutions that deal with this problem, but also we cooperate with the family members,” he said.

He appealed to all authorities in BiH and beyond to get involved in the process of searching for missing persons, because families have the right to know what happened to their family members.

“I also ask individuals who know something to come forward and give information, because this is a humanitarian act so that families can mourn their loved ones in dignity,” Filipović concluded.

Chairman of the Collegium of Directors of the Missing Persons Institute Amor Mašović said that there are still 7.191 registered and verified missing persons who went missing in the period from 30 April 1992 to 14 February 1996, in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighboring countries of Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia and Kosovo, and that they are searching for all BiH citizens regardless of where the disappearance occurred during that period.

“We are currently receiving results from the DNA analysis of persons who were killed at Koričani cliffs. Up to date, we have exhumed 54 persons, while 72 have been identified so far,” said Mašović, expressing hope that by the end of 2018, they will have some better results.
