LIVNO, August 16 (FENA) - Wood industry is certainly one of the most prospective branches of the economy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This sector is recording steady growth across all parameters, especially exports, said FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić today during his visit to ‘Arteli Design’ company in Livno.

He emphasized that high quality furniture is being produced in BiH.

“We were able to see that during our tour of the production facilities of the 'Arteli Design' company. These are products that are recognized and sold primarily in foreign markets,” said Novalić.

He reminded that the FBiH Parliament recently adopted the Wood Industry Development Strategy, which sets out the basic directions for its development.

“The wood industry is already an important factor of the country’s economic growth. I think with the help of the Strategy, we can count on additional jobs in this sector and even better results of our foreign trade,” added Novalić.

Novalić today led a delegation of the Government of FBiH in visit to Livno together with ministers of agriculture, water management and forestry and displaced persons and refugees, Šemsudin Dedić and Edin Ramić, all with the aim to give support to businesses in this region.

Dedić pointed out the main problem of all wood-processing companies is the lack of raw materials. For years, he says, Bosnia and Herzegovina was the one to export unprocessed timber and logs instead of producing 'home-made' furniture.

“The FBiH Government therefore has taken a number of steps aimed at helping furniture manufacturers.

Recently we reached a decision in cooperation with the RS Government to ban exports of banned raw materials – timber and logs from BiH for a period of two years. A tax was imposed on the export of certain types of cut material,” said Dedić.

In addition to this, he added, a crucial piece of legislation is currently in the procedure to solve the problems with the raw materials, which is the new Law on Forests.

“We are also planning to adopt new distribution criteria for raw materials that give priority to domestic furniture manufacturers,” said Dedić.
