Mektić and Duffy discuss security, migrants, and fight against radicalism

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 8 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić and USAID Mission Director Peter Duffy met today in Sarajevo and discussed security cooperation, especially when it comes to fight against radicalism and addressing migrants' situation.

They exchanged information on the past activities and the results of the deradicalization project implemented in more than 15 local communities with a special focus on young people and the fight against radicalization on the Internet.

Mektić assessed this project to be very important emphasizing that the results on the ground are already visible and supported the continuation of this program aimed at informing the youth about the dangers and deterrence from radical ideas and actions.

He also informed Duffy about measures taken to prevent illegal migration through strengthening border protection and finding adequate conditions for the accommodation of migrants in BiH.

Duffy informed Mektić that, when it comes to the report on trafficking in human beings, BiH dropped by one place, stressing that the reasons for this is failure to prosecute the persons involved in these criminal acts, the work of the Task Force on the issue of trafficking in human beings, and inadequate actions of social workers and police officers when it comes to the problem of street begging, who very often chose not to approach this phenomenon as trafficking in human beings, stated the BiH Ministry of Security.
