SARAJEVO, August 6 (FENA) - The FBiH Agro-Mediterranean Institute has completed the process of accrediting the laboratory method for determining the relative frequency of pollen in honey, becoming the first accredited institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina authorized for this type of analysis for honey produced from black locust, lime, sage, chestnut, mountain savory and thyme.
By acquiring this accreditation, the Institute could become the focal point and open up prospects for a significant export of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s honey to the international market.
In addition to improving the conditions for export of honey from Bosnia and Herzegovina, this type of analysis will also be of great importance for the control of imported honey that is sold on our market.
Pollen analysis is the only way to determine the number and type of pollen grains, which is the basis for the proper labeling of honey. On the basis of the type and number of pollen grains honey is declared as varietal.
The labeling of honey is regulated by the Regulation on honey and other bee products, but now, for the first time, it is possible to conduct the accredited pollen analysis of honey in BiH.
The support for the training of the staff of the FBiH Agro-Mediterranean Institute and preparation of procedures that ensure the application of the highest standards in this field was provided by the USAID/Sweden FARMA II Project.
