Operational HQ determines the locations for reception of migrants in USC

SARAJEVO, July 26 (FENA) - Members of the Operational Headquarters for Migration Issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina held a meeting in Sarajevo today to discuss activities and measures for dealing with illegal migration and the care of migrants on the territory of BiH.

Minister of Security Dragan Mektić, who chaired the meeting, informed the participants about the latest activities related to the accommodation of migrants in the Una-Sana Canton (USC), stressing that the accommodation of families and minors without adults to Sedra hotel near Cazin began yesterday, part of the migrants last week from Bihać were relocated to the Asylum Center near Trnovo, and persons who threatened security in the USC area were placed in the Immigration Center in Lukavica.

He also informed the participants of the meeting that they finally agreed with local communities and representatives of international institutions on the locations for the reception of migrants in the area of ​​USC. The village of Lipe in the area of ​​the municipality of Bosanski Petrovac has been chosen for this purpose, while as a temporary solution until putting into operation the center in Lipe, the Agrokomerc building in Velika Kladuša will be used.

Mektić emphasized that the City of Bihać will be relieved of the burden as it currently accommodates the largest number of migrants.

Also, all the prerequisites, as well as financial resources, have been met to start equipping the location of Ušivak near Hadžići, where migrants from the Sarajevo Canton will be accommodated.

The HQ also discussed the ways and needs for stronger monitoring and control of the eastern border of BiH in order to prevent illegal entry of migrants from the territory of Serbia and Montenegro.

Since the beginning of the year, 9,326 migrants have been registered in BiH and it is estimated that about 3,000 are currently in the country, stated the Ministry of Security of BiH.
