FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 2 (FENA) – Two-day conference "Security of Gas Supply in BiH" was organized on Mt. Jahorina today by USAID project "Energy Investment Activity".

Around a hundred experts from all relevant companies and decision makers from competent ministries will discuss key issues for stability of gas supply in BiH. Conference will offer quality presentations and panel discussions on review of development of transport network in the region and plans for development of transport network in BiH, and topics of discussion will also be legislation within the EU directives and methodology for determination of a transport tariff, organizers stated.

Director of the economic department of USAID BiH Andrew Boegel reminded that BiH is behind due to unregulated gas sector, which is a problem for BiH economy because it blocks approach to greater amount of money in pre-accession funds.

"Reason why we support reform of the energy sector together with the gas sector is because we believe that this important source of energy should be adequately regulated in transparent environment. Ultimately, that will be most beneficial for citizens, who on the one hand will have a stable and safe supply, and on the other hand they will know exactly how structured their bill is for this energy source," concluded Boegel.

Director of the project "Energy Investment Activity" (EIA), Ognjen Marković explained that the goal is to present analysis to the expert public, and to prepare a final report after comments and suggestions based on which future decisions on development of network will be made.

"Importance of the gathering also lies in the fact that key participants of the sector will meet here and exchange experiences and views that could give room to further dialogue to solve a stalemate that gas sector is in at the moment," concluded Marković.

One of the goals of project "Investing in the Energy Sector" is to remove obstacles for investing in infrastructure of the gas sector in BiH and give recommendations for further formation of legal and regulation framework for forming a competitive gas market.
