Crnadak: EU enlargement to Western Balkans is most important process for region

FENA Press release

CAPE SOUNIO/SARAJEVO, May 11 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Igor Crnadak participated in the meeting "Visegrad 4 plus Balkan 4 plus" (V4+B4+) held in Cape Sounio, near Athens, Greece, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

The Visegrad Group (V4) consists of four Central European countries, members of the European Union - Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland, while the B4 plus format is represented by EU members from the Balkans - Greece, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria. Bosnia and Herzegovina was invited to the gathering in Greece as a potential candidate for membership in the European Union (EU).

Among other things, the meeting discussed the enlargement of the European Union to the Western Balkans, the strengthening of energy cooperation, as well as the coordination between the EU member states.

In his speech, Mr. Crnadak pointed out that this was a very important year for the process of European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Speaking about the European integration process, Mr. Crnadak stressed that the Berlin Process and the Western Balkans 6 (WB6) initiative had brought a positive push for regional cooperation, especially through projects that are expected to have significant economic and social effects.

“EU enlargement to the region of the Western Balkans is the most important process for the future of the region, as it provides long-term stability and opens up space for faster economic development. Nevertheless, the biggest challenges for Bosnia and Herzegovina are in our internal relations, because we have to fight for stronger institutions in the fight against corruption, for a fairer society, for more investment and better quality daily life of our citizens. Only then will the European future and the success of the European integration process have a real significance for our citizens and peoples,” Mr. Crnadak said.

In the framework of the V4+B4+ meeting, Mr. Crnadak will hold a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó. Mr. Crnadak and Mr. Szijjártó will discuss bilateral activities, as well as the continuation of BiH's European integration process.
