SARAJEVO, May 3 (FENA) - Germany and France have launched a project to strengthen coordination in the fight against illegal arms trafficking in the countries of the Western Balkans, and a conference in Sarajevo will be held in June to determine the main challenges and needs of BiH in this area.
This was announced today at a meeting of the Security Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić with the ambassadors of these two countries to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christiane Hohmann and Guillaume Rousson, and Mr. Mektić emphasized that illegal weapons constituted a serious problem throughout the region.
“Along with the fight against organized crime and terrorism, it is necessary to fight against the illegal possession and trafficking of arms. BiH is interested in strengthening capacities and improving the legislative framework in order to more effectively counter this challenge,” Mr. Mektić said.
During the meeting, the collocutors exchanged views on the initiated procedure for amending the BiH Criminal Procedure Code, in accordance with the decision of the BiH Constitutional Court, the BiH Ministry of Security stated.
Mr. Mektić emphasized that he expected a responsible approach to this issue because in the event of the abolition of the current provisions of the law and the non-adoption of new ones, there could be consequences in the fight against organized crime, corruption and money laundering.
