BiH imports 11 times more cheese than it exports

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 27 (FENA) - On the occasion of the healthy food month, the USAID/Sweden FARMA II project and the Bingo City Center Tuzla organize a sales promotion of domestic products on Saturday.

Seventeen producers of cheese, honey, fruit and vegetables from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina will present themselves to the visitors. The manufacturers will draw attention to the fact that in the category of agro-food products, BiH has recorded a deficit of more than 2 billion KM and will promote the slogan "Let's eat away the deficit!", appealing to consumers to give a chance to delicious domestic products.

In the period from 12.00 to 19.00, the exhibitors will organize tasting of cheeses from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, including several cheeses that have won awards in the Balkan Cheese Festival in Belgrade in recent years. Despite the excellent quality of its cheeses, Bosnia and Herzegovina imports 11 times more cheese than it exports and especially incredible is the fact that BiH imported more than seven million KM of fresh cheese last year.

Attention will also be paid to the issue of the quality of imported honey, because the fact that out of 270 tons of honey imported into BiH last year, more than 70 tons was imported at the price of about five KM per kilogram, is worrying. At the same time, the average export price of BiH honey was around 16 KM, the USAID/Sweden FARMA II project stated.
