SARAJEVO, April 18 (FENA) - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina commends the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina for adopting the Law on Parliamentary Oversight.
“This Law will enable the Parliamentary Assembly to exert more effective oversight over the government, including all ministries and state executive structures,” the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Bruce G. Berton said in a statement on this occasion.
Specifically, he stresses that the Law prescribes clear procedures in cases of negative audit reports and introduces minor offenses and fines to secure the presence of responsible individuals and witnesses in cases of inquiries before the Parliamentary Assembly.
“The adoption of the Law is an important step towards improving adherence to standards of good governance, including the transparency of government and efficiency of public services. Another key element is the strengthening of the accountability of public officials, contributing also to the prevention of corruption,” Ambassador Berton explains.
The OSCE Mission to BiH and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights supported the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the drafting of this Law, which represents the first such piece of legislation to be adopted in the region, the OSCE Mission to BiH stated.
