SARAJEVO, April 6 (FENA) - The Social Democratic Party (SDP) of BiH believes that the deterioration of citizens' confidence in the electoral process and the Central Electoral Commission, as the institution which is supposed to implement this process, has reached its maximum after the latest affairs.
“On the other hand, the strong opposition from the SNSD to the adoption of amendments to the law that imply the introduction of additional voter identity control, as well as the introduction of video surveillance and scanning of ballots, as well as the HDZ's blockade of the House of Peoples to prevent the adoption of this law, is clear a sign of an intent to keep the current electoral system that is marked by numerous electoral irregularities,” the SDP BiH stated.
Additionally, the statement adds, the role of individual CEC members is "all but independent and honorable and heavily burdens the election preparation process".
“From all this, the political laity can draw the conclusion that a large electoral fraud is being prepared, which must be prevented in any way possible,” the SDP said.
The SDP BiH welcomes the gathering of political parties in an informal coalition for fair and just elections aimed at preventing electoral fraud and abuse of the institutions for the purpose of the election campaign and has appointed their representative in these parties’ coordination body.
“The SDP BiH believes that, apart from all the activities that will be carried out in the prevention of electoral fraud, the first that should happen is the dismissal of the Central Election Commission and the formation of an interim election commission. This would increase the transparency of the process, restore confidence and reduce abuses for the interests of individual parties,” the party believes.
They also call upon the international community representatives to engage in preventing electoral fraud and alteration of the will of the citizens in accordance with the highest standards that apply in the countries they come from and in accordance with similar experiences from the region when the formation of independent interim bodies restored the confidence of citizens and political parties in the electoral processes, the SDP BiH's statement reads.
