SARAJEVO, April 5 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić stressed the commitment of his Ministry to be part of the European security system and emphasized that the measures taken with regard to terrorism and radicalization have resulted in the fact that there have been no terrorist incidents in BiH for four years.
The Minister said this today in Sarajevo, in a meeting with the European Parliament (EP) delegation, with whom he discussed BiH's European path, security challenges and regional cooperation.
The delegation, led by the Chairperson of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defense (SEDE) Anna Elżbieta Fotyga, also included MEPs Cristian Dan Preda, Tonino Picula, Angel Dzhambazki and Bodil Valero.
Mr. Mektić informed his collocutors about the projects of prevention and deradicalization and stressed the extraordinary good cooperation with European institutions and agencies.
He stressed that BiH has recently faced an increasing problem of illegal migrants, the number of which has increased by as much as 500 percent, and noted that greater involvement and engagement of the European Union is needed to stop these flows.
Talking about the key challenges in BiH, he pointed to the widespread corruption, which benefits from the unwillingness of political elites to counter this phenomenon and the inefficiency of the judiciary in prosecuting these criminal offenses.
The European parliamentarians said the meeting was very productive, as well as the information on key security challenges and measures taken by security agencies in BiH, stressing that security in BiH and the region will remain the focus of this Subcommittee's activities, the BiH Ministry of Security stated.
