SARAJEVO, March 13 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Dragan Čović met with a delegation of the Rector's Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by the Council Chairman, prof. dr. Zoran Tomić.
Along with the rectors and representatives of universities, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Agency for Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance of BiH, who informed the Chairman about the activities and challenges within the scope of work of the Agency, the BiH Presidency said.
The collocutors informed Mr. Čović about problems in this area, primarily with a poorly designed legal framework, and the lack of a strategic framework for investing in science and research.
They agreed that it was necessary to improve the accreditation process in order to foster excellence and the introduction of unique standards that will follow European standards.
They stressed the necessity of broader strategic action on the stabilization of the higher education sector in BiH and then strengthening the competitiveness in relation to the countries in the region.
They agreed that science and education were a generator of development and a prerequisite for positive social processes and that they must be the absolute priority of overall efforts to build a healthy and prosperous society.
Mr. Čović expressed his full understanding for the above issues, as well as support for the activities of the Rector's Council and all members in achieving European standards.
