General Everard and Admiral Foggo support Euro-Atlantic integration process

SARAJEVO, February 21 (FENA) - BiH Defense Minister Marina Pendeš, Deputy Ministers Sead Jusić and Boris Jerinić and Chief of the BiH Armed Forces Joint Staff, Lieutenant General Anto Jeleč, accompanied by his Deputies, Generals Senad Mašović and Mirko Tepšić, met today with the Operational Commander of the EU Forces for Operation “Althea”, General Sir James Everard, who is also the Deputy Commander in Chief of the Allied Forces for Europe.

In addition to General Everard, Admiral James G. Foggo, the newly appointed commander of the NATO Joint Command in Naples, also visited the BiH Defense Ministry. He is also the Commander of the US Navy for Europe and the US Navy's Commander for Africa.

General Everard and Admiral Foggo were accompanied, among others, by the Commander of EUFOR forces in BiH, Major General Anton Valdner and General Robert Huston, Commander of the NATO HQ in Sarajevo.

Minister Pendeš welcomed the delegation and thanked General Everard for his support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its Euro-Atlantic path, but also for the assistance the EUFOR in BiH provides to the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister Pendeš also congratulated Admiral Foggo on his appointment as the Commander of the NATO Joint Command in Naples, and wished him a successful and productive mission and career, as well as expressing her satisfaction with the visit of this high delegation.

The Chief of the BiH AF Joint Staff, Lieutenant General Anto Jeleč, informed the attendees about the activities of the BiH Armed Forces related to cooperation with EUFOR forces in the field of training and exercises, demining process, capability and capacity building of the BiH AF, as well as other issues.

General Sir James Everard praised the activities carried out by the MoD and BiH AF, and expressed his commitment to further support the BiH AF by jointly engaging EUFOR and NATO staff in Sarajevo, thus strengthening the capabilities and capacities of the BiH Armed Forces.

General Everard promised full support to the efforts of the BiH Ministry of Defense to continue the activities that will lead to the activation of the MAP as soon as possible, but also to more significant and important changes in the process of further professionalization of BiH AF and achieving full level of interoperability and standards.

Admiral Foggo stressed the need for continuation of the reform process in BiH and expressed the commitment of the NATO Command in Naples to continue to support the defense sector in BiH through the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo in order to advance Bosnia and Herzegovina om the path of Euro-Atlantic integration, stated the BiH MoD PR Office.
