SARAJEVO, February 21 (FENA) - On the occasion of February 21, the International Mother Language Day, Vice President of the Federation of BiH Melika Mahmutbegović underlined importance and significance of marking the vested right of every citizen to use the language they see as their mother language.
She emphasized this is especially important for BiH, where multiculturalism has existed for centuries and where diversity has always been a unique quality of the entire social community.
"We are witnesses of daily political dispute over use of one of the official languages and script in certain parts of BiH. Bosniaks have been deprived of using Bosnian language and Latin script in entity of Republika Srpska for years, while the constitutions of certain cantons in the Federation of BiH (with Croat majority) do not even state Serb language or Cyrillic, whereas Bosnian language is called a language of Bosniak people or Bosniak language, which is a severe violation of the Constitution of the Federation of BiH and BiH and flagrant violation of international norms, conventions and commitments of our state," Vice President Mahmutbegović stated.
She added it is incomprehensible that "certain political elites use these methods to deny basic human and civic rights“.
