MOSTAR, Feb 8 (FENA) - The newly built bridge over the Neretva is officially opened in Mostar on Thursday, by which the road from Kralja Tomislava Street to Marshal Tito Street has been put into function.
"It is a project that we have been waiting for impatiently, because the ideas and plans for construction in this case have not always been under schedule due the numerous difficulties we faced with during their realization. Despite all that, with much effort and support, we have overcome all the difficulties and we are proud of being here today,"Mostar Mayor, Ljubo Beslic, said on this occasion.
About KM 15.3 million were invested in the construction of the bridge, including the expropriation costs, of which the FBiH Government provided KM 11 million and the City of Mostar KM 4.3 million.
The bridge is 130 meters long, with four lanes, but just two are in function, because funds lack to complete the construction of the connecting roads.
The construction works were performed by the HP Investing company.
It is the first new bridge across the Neretva River in Mostar and the surrounding area built in the last 23 years, after 11 in the war destroyed bridge had been reconstructed earlier.
To remind, the construction of the bridge commenced in 2008, and the completion of the works was announced for August 2009. But due to some problems with land expropriation and financing of construction works, the bridge is open ten years later.
