Trial of Sretko Pavić for war crime in Rizvanovići near Prijedor begins

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 8 (FENA) - Following the indictment reading and opening statement of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, began the trial of Sretko Pavić before the state court for the murder of five civilians in July 1992 in Rizvanovići near Prijedor, reported BIRN-Justice Report.

The first witness of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, Mirsad Duratović, said that at the end of May 1992, the Serb forces issued an ultimatum for handing over of weapons, and in late April of that year they took full control and authority in the Municipality of Prijedor.

“On May 31, 1992, all Muslims were ordered to mark their houses with white sheets, and when they left the house, they had to wear white handkerchiefs around their arm as a show of loyalty to the new Serb government,” Mr. Duratović recalled.

The BiH Prosecutor’s Office charges Sretko Pavić that, as part of a wide and systematic attack of the Army and Police of Republika Srpska, he committed the persecution and killings of the Bosniak population from May to September 1992.

According to the indictment, in the second half of July 1992, Mr. Pavić took five civilians to a checkpoint in Rizvanovići, where he imprisoned them and then killed them.
