BRUSSELS, February 1 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency Chairman and HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović, speaking about the more active role of the international community in talks on amending the BiH Election Law, said that it seems to him that everyone has underestimated the importance of this issue and that this was a problem.
“When we talked a year and a half ago about the need to have an election law, everyone was waiting for something to happen on its own and believed that no tensions would come. Only when it became certain that the Bosniak side wanted to maintain the status quo, the US administration, and partly the EU, decided to become involved. In conversations with them, I clearly stated that I considered this important, and in some ways even encouraged them to continue down this path. I defined clear frameworks that would have to be respected, and I believe that they will seek solutions on this path with everyone they talk to. The plan is very simple. Whatever we agree upon, we need 22 votes for it in the House of Representatives and eight in the House of Peoples. And if we manage to ensure this through whatever negotiations we can, it will be good, although I am glad that the representatives of the international community have become more involved and are making efforts to do something,” Mr. Čović told FENA last night, just before the dinner with his colleagues from the BiH Presidency and the President of the European People's Party Joseph Daul in Brussels.
