SARAJEVO, January 30 (FENA) - The International Forum of Solidarity IFS-EMMAUS today promoted the application and awarded prizes for “Be the Cyber Detective!”, a kind of game that helps children learn about potential online risks.

This is one of the activities that are being implemented within the project “Development of Guidelines for the Prevention of Violence against Children in BiH adapted to Children”, funded by the European Union, implemented by IFS-EMMAUS and supported by UNICEF.

Amela Efendić from EMMAUS explained that the application was created in the form of an online quiz, and it consists of two segments that can be used for initial knowledge checking, and after the training for online knowledge testing on social networks, as well as offline for the implementation within the framework of a regular classroom or on home computers.

“The application encourages children not to put up with violence, to report it and to be the ones who will say let’s stop the violence and report it. It was designed in the same way as the materials we have previously made (e.g. a picture book for small children),” she told reporters.

Gianluca Vannini of the EU Delegation to BiH reminded that today's children were well informed and have a good level of knowledge in all online tools, and the goal of this project is to provide protection mechanisms but also to give them the information on proper contact institutions to turn to in the case of violence.

Antonia Luedeke from UNICEF in BiH says that they were helping the governments to design and develop regulatory legal frameworks to protect children from violence, improve the availability of quality of protection services against such violence, and also to build societal norms to condemn such violence and empower children to be able to report and fight such phenomena.

IFS-EMMAUS implemented the online educational quiz “Be the Cyber-Detective!” in order to strengthen the prevention of violence against children, and to encourage children and young people, parents, professionals and the general public to contribute more to the identification and reporting of cases of violence against children. During the six-week period, 850 children aged 12 to 18 participated in this quiz, and according to the results and interest of children, the web application “Be the Cyber Detective!” was created.

The application is intended for use in schools across BiH to educate children, as well as parents, teaching staff and other professionals about various forms of violence against children, as well as prevention and reporting.

Today's event in the Info Center of the EU Delegation to BiH, apart from children and youth, was attended by the representatives of relevant institutions, international and civil society organizations from BiH, and they emphasized the need for preventive action, intensified education and raising awareness among children and youth on various forms of violence that they can be exposed to.
