SARAJEVO, January 24 (FENA) - The new FBiH law on pension and disability insurance (PIO) was approved today by a majority of the MPs at an extraordinary session of the FBiH Parliament House of Representatives.
At the same time, the FBiH Government and the FBiH PIO Institute have been obliged by the special conclusion of the House to monitor the implementation of the law in the next six months and propose amendments to correct its basic flaws, with the aim of a sustainable pension system and the elimination of possible discriminatory provisions, especially those pertaining to workers with the lowest income.
The proposal of the new FBiH Law on PIO was approved with 51 votes in the House of Representatives, which has a total of 98 members.
An extraordinary session of the House of Peoples is scheduled for tomorrow and this law is on its proposed agenda as well.
The law was proposed by the FBiH Government. Minister of Labor and Social Policy Vesko Drljača explained to the MPs that the law will introduce a more just system and a new point-based system for calculating the pensions' amount, based on the average salary in FBiH, the number of years of the insured person's service and paid contributions. He said that the law would stabilize the pension fund, which would allow for the regular payment of pensions.
Today’s parliamentary debate on the law coincided with the protests of members of the Alliance of Independent Trade Unions in BiH and veterans in front of the FBiH Parliament building.
