SARAJEVO, January 15 (FENA) - Gazi Husrev-bey's library marked on Monday its 481st anniversary and at the same time 45 years of publishing a professional journal "Chronicles of the Gazi Husrev-bey's Library".
The promoters of the Chronicles academic Enes Karić, professors Fikret Karčić and Lejla Gazić recalled that the magazine was launched in 1972 on the basis of the proposal of the then Council of the Library on the establishment of a journal in order to familiarize the public about the work and archives of this institution.
The director of the Gazi Husrev-bey's library, Osman Lavić, confirmed that this institution was very much illuminating the cultural history of Bosniaks and that it was trying to get closer to its readers.
He recalled that the Manuscripts of the Gazi Husrev-bey's Library had become part of the world's cultural heritage by being added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register and that 10,000 Ottoman documents and other materials deserve and seek the wider attention of the community and the state.
"In order to provide to library users a better and more quality access to library material, a digital Gazi Husrev-bey's library has been created. The periodicals from the end of the Ottoman Empire until 1945 had been digitized and offered for the further public use", Mr. Lavić said.
