SARAJEVO, February 12 (FENA) - The international conference "Members of Parliaments and Religious Leaders for Peace and Coexistence" gathered today in Sarajevo about 400 participants who will discuss the topics of coexistence and peace in a world full of global threats and challenges.

The conference was opened by the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, emphasizing that in Sarajevo it is considered quite normal, almost natural, that people from all over BiH, people of all ethnic and religious groups live, work, cooperate, socialize.

He stated that, no matter how much some political actors tried to emphasize the existence of administrative lines, practical life testifies to the fact that people rely on each other in their daily activities, which speaks in the best way in favor of a pleasant and peaceful life.

"The image of life and the perspective of lasting peace can be especially strengthened by religious communities and their leaders. I am saying this for a reason that is well known to all of us, whether some like it or not, the role of religious communities and religious leaders in our country is, after all, the role of spiritual and generally moral authorities for a good part of Bosnians and Herzegovinans. This makes that role more important, but the responsibility is also greater," said Komšić.

The conference participants include presidents and members of parliaments, religious leaders, representatives of civil society, members of the academic community and other experts from numerous countries.

It is planned that a joint statement on the necessity of dialogue with different religions, cultures and ethnic groups for coexistence and peace to be passed at the conference.

The conference is jointly organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Muslim World League (Rabitat).

Rabitat - The Muslim World League was founded in 1960 during the reign of King Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, but the practical operations of Rabitat emerged during the reign of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
