SREBRENICA, July 11 (FENA) - The President of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica, Hamdija Fejzić, said that it is a devastating fact that in two years since the law on genocide denial has been in force, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has not filed a single indictment for this crime, but have made 38 decisions not to conduct an investigation into criminal charges for denial of genocide.

He said these words at the beginning of the commemoration on the occasion of the burial of 30 identified victims of genocide, who will find their eternal resting place after 28 years in the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center. So far, 6,721 victims of genocide have been buried in Potočari.

"Today we will pray the funeral for 30 victims of genocide, we bow to the pain of their families, we bow to the mothers who today will flood the earth with tears that will cover the taboos of her children. We also bow to the mothers who are not with us, and many of them who did not live to see their children being found and buried with dignity," said Fejzić.

He emphasized that more than 1,000 victims of the genocide are still being searched for, even though 28 years have passed since the crime.

"The truth is always simple, justice is always pure, it is enough just to say - July 11. It's one of those self-explanatory dates. It is written in black letters in our hearts," he pointed out.

Fejzić reminded that in July 2021, High Representative Valentin Inzko banned the denial of genocide.

"That was a good thing, but it is not enough. It is a devastating fact that in these two years the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has not filed a single indictment for denying the genocide, but has filed 38 subsequent decisions not to conduct an investigation into criminal charges for denying the genocide," he emphasized.

He claims that much more must be done to punish genocide deniers.

"The international community has an obligation towards Srebrenica and must not leave it alone. We hear more and more that Srebrenica is a place of memory, pain, death, not coexistence and survival," said Fejzić.

In the meantime, he added, a new generation of young people has grown up ready to preserve the lasting truth and memory of those who are no longer with us.
