SARAJEVO, April 28 (FENA) - Students from 13 countries around the world who completed a five-day course on media management in peace support operations at the Peace Support Operations Training Center (PSOTC) were awarded certificates today.

It is a training that PSOTC traditionally organizes in cooperation with the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Sarajevo and the Office for Defense Cooperation of the Embassy of the United States of America.

As PSOTC commander Brigadier Elvedin Omić told FENA, this course is only one of seven NATO-certified courses that they organize, and it is particularly interesting because it is also certified by the Faculty of Political Science and is realized by joint forces.

"When we talk about the importance of NATO accreditation, it is of great importance for every training center in NATO countries, let alone for our armed forces and our country. Even in NATO countries, very few centers have this type of accreditation, and even many countries that are members of NATO do not have a training center accredited in this way," stated Omić.

He notes that this accreditation actually confirms that the system of planning, execution and analysis of trained activities is in accordance with the highest NATO standards and that the training that is carried out is actually needed not only at the national level but also at the level of the NATO.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of three countries in the world that has a training center with this type of accreditation, without being a member of NATO. Until recently, Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of four countries, but Finland joined the NATO and soon it will be one of two countries because Sweden is expected to join the alliance,  it will be BiH and Georgia.

The course was attended by 37 participants from a total of 13 countries, 15 international members, 12 students from the Faculty of Political Science, nine members of the BiH Armed Forces and one member of the Ministry of Security of BiH.

Colonel Amer Riković, who is also the director of the course, told FENA that during these five days, the participants had the opportunity to learn what opportunities the presence of the media in peace support operations can provide them, but also what challenges they can face. in this field.

In addition, the experts presented diverse and demanding exercises related to giving statements to the media, press conferences, and emphasized the development of the necessary skills needed for successful use of public relations in operations in order to achieve unity of effort in the execution of mission goals.

Second Lieutenant Emmanouela Dandoulaki, an instructor at the Hellenic International Peace Support Operations Center located in Kilkis, Greece, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with PSOTC in providing media training for the military and journalists.

"Our expertise in peace support operations and strategic communication allow us to effectively contribute to this really important training - the basic course "Media Management in Peace Support Operations" held in Sarajevo," she added.

She expressed her belief that this cooperation will improve the knowledge and skills of media professionals and improve regional cooperation and stability.

The lecturers of the course were from the Multinational Training Center for Peace Support Operations from Greece, NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, EUFOR Command, Office for Defense Cooperation of the US Embassy, Faculty of Political Science of the University of Sarajevo, the Federal News Agency (FENA), Media information center of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and members of PSOTC.
