SARAJEVO, April 13 (FENA) - Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sevlid Hurtić spoke today with the representative of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Roma communities, Ján Hero, about projects to provide support to the Roma community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an emphasis on Roma youth.

The interlocutors also shared experiences when it comes to the integration of Roma minorities and ways of providing support to this population.

Hurtić points out that he discussed numerous issues with Hero, and that Slovakia's experiences in that area can help BiH in future projects to support the Roma population.

”We want the teams of Slovakia and BiH to discuss this topic, with the aim of progress for the Roma population. I asked for larger funds from the European Union, and we will justify it so that our citizens can live better. We allocated two million KM from the budget this year for projects related to the Roma population. This amount was allocated for building houses, building permits, health and education, as well as certain funds for Roma associations,” said Hurtić.

He added that the funds will be forwarded only to those municipalities where Roma people live.

Hero notes that he offered Hurtić to come to Slovakia with his team and exchange ideas with that country's team in the area of implementation of aid to the Roma people and that his country is a friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to European integration.

“We are ready to support the Ministry in fulfilling the 14 key priorities of the European Commission in the integration process. Slovakia is a big supporter of BiH's European path. I want to motivate young Roma people in BiH to participate in social life and politics to improve the lives of Roma in the community,” stated Hero.

As he said, Slovakia is proud of the representation of Roma in state structures, from local administration, through city authorities, to state leadership in the European Parliament.
