FENA and other news agencies in SEE sign a declaration on the fight against fake news (VIDEO)

THESSALONIKI, March 20 (FENA) - Members of the Association of Balkan News Agencies (ABNA-SE) signed a declaration today in Thessaloniki, Greece, in which they have committed themselves to work on strengthening cooperation in order to provide objective information, as well as fight against fake news, regardless of how and in what form the news are disseminated. On behalf of the Federal News Agency (FENA), the declaration was signed by the Managing Director, Elmir Huremović. 

The declaration was signed by FENA (Bosnia and Herzegovina), ANA-MPA (Greece), Anadolu (Turkey), Agerpress (Romania), ATA (Albania), BTA (Bulgaria), CNA (Cyprus), Hina (Croatia), Kosovapress (Kosovo ), MIA (North Macedonia) and Mina (Montenegro).

Members of the Association of Balkan News Agencies - Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE), respecting the Statute, especially Article 5 (Goals of the Association), Article 6 (Scope of activities and ways to achieve the goals of the Association) and Article 11 (Obligations of members), but also the basic right and the general legal principle of freedom of expression and information, freedom of mass media and pluralism, as well as the journalistic and ethical behavior of each member, have decided to strengthen their cooperation to provide and offer comprehensive and objective information and fight against fake news, in any way or form in which they are disseminated (text, image, video), by establishing contact points in each news agency for timely and valid verification of fake news, in order to limit their spread, it is stated in the Declaration.

Each of the signatory news agencies undertakes to appoint a contact person, in order to ensure direct communication (24/7/365) when verification of information is required.
