SARAJEVO, February 14 (FENA) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sevlid Hurtić, met with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ingrid Macdonald, with whom he discussed numerous jointly implemented projects and planned activities of the ministry in the coming period.

Minister Hurtić emphasized that this ministry will pay great attention in the coming period to the preparation of the "Universal Periodic Review on the State of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina", which is one of the most important reports that the state submits to the UN Human Rights Council.

He also stated that amendments to the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination are planned, in order to improve the legal framework in the context of freedom of expression and human rights defenders.

Resident coordinator Macdonald reminded that the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina has 19 agencies and funds, which are present and operate based on the agreement with the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which expires in 2025.

She emphasized that by the end of 2021, through the implemented projects, the United Nations had achieved a joint realization of funds in the amount of more than 121 million US dollars.

Given that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the interlocutors discussed the possibilities of jointly marking the significant anniversary at the end of the year.

They also discussed the joint celebration of International Women's Day, as well as other activities that will contribute to the improvement of legislation related to protection from gender-based violence, especially domestic violence.
