SARAJEVO, December 20 (FENA) - The ceremony on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, December 18, was held in Sarajevo at the ‘King Fahd’ Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On this occasion, the calligraphic works of the distinguished Saudi author Ibrahim Alarafi were also presented.
In an address to journalists and other dignitaries, the Saudi Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Osama bin Dakhil Al-Ahmadi, said that the Arabic language has special characteristics, with a large fund of words, its poetry and prose, with influence and receiving influence from other languages, which is why it bears the characteristics of a certain type of coexistence with other languages.
It is one of the five official languages recognized by the United Nations, which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries have worked hard on. It is very widespread, it is spoken by almost a billion people in the world, according to some estimates, the Ambassador said.
Saudi Arabia's efforts to preserve and improve that language will not stop. The Kingdom pays a lot of attention to this, so faculties, universities, and centers for cultivating and studying the Arabic language were founded and are being founded. The King Salman Center is a kind of institution-authority in this area, the ambassador also stated.
Today's ceremony at the "King Fahd" Cultural Center was attended by numerous dignitaries - members of the diplomatic corps in Bosnia and Herzegovina, university professors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Arabic language experts, students, media and other guests.
World Arabic Language Day is celebrated every December 18 after the decision of the United Nations Organization in 2012.
