SARAJEVO, November 30 (FENA) - An average of 20 students share one computer in Bosnia and Herzegovina today and 583 schools, primary and secondary, do not have a single piece of IT equipment, it was pointed out at the conference "Let's design education" organized today in Sarajevo UNICEF and UNESCO.

The representative of UNICEF in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rownak Khan, stated that because of this, 14,000 children do not have any opportunity for digital education.

"It is necessary to work together to introduce equal opportunities for digital learning for all children," added Khan.

Resident representative of the UN in BiH Ingrid Macdonald reminded that in September 2022, the UN Secretary-General convened a summit on the transformation of education at which the heads of state, including BiH, decided to put education at the top of their priorities.

"This is important for teachers, students and parents, and it is up to us to find a way to translate the conclusions of that conference into action in order to improve the education system. The disruption in education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic provided an opportunity to use what was learned from that experience to improve education," said Macdonald.

Assistant Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH Adnan Husić stated that digitization in the education sector in BiH is particularly important because during the pandemic we were suddenly forced to switch to an online learning system, which showed the importance of technology in education.

The conference emphasized that the power of the digital revolution must be harnessed to ensure that quality education becomes a public good and a human right, with a special focus on the most marginalized.
