Alkalaj criticizes Schmidt's actions at the UN Security Council session in New York

NEW YORK, November 3 (FENA) - The BiH Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Sven Alkalaj, in his address at the Security Council session last evening dedicated to the situation in BiH, criticized the actions of the High Representative Christian Schmidt.

He accused the German diplomat of taking actions contrary to Annex 10 of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, bringing the country, as he stated, to a state of destabilization.

Alkalaj said, during a UN Security Council (UNSC) session on the situation in BiH, that Serbia and Croatia are trying to interfere in internal matters of the country, and accused the High Representative of the international community in BiH of deceiving voters with the reforms he imposed on election day.

"The High Representative deceived all the voters in Bosnia and Herzegovina because they would certainly have voted differently if they were familiar with the new election rules. He deceived all the actors of the election, more precisely all the political parties and independent candidates, who would certainly have offered different electoral lists and election programs that would have been in accordance with the new election rules," Alkalaj asserted, referring to the decisions on electoral reform that Schmidt imposed on election night.

Alkalaj considered the fact that Schmidt imposed such changes to the BiH Electoral Law as controversial, as the evaluation of which, as he states, is carried out through a mathematical formula and the coefficient for participation in the electoral process determined in accordance with the ethnicity of the voting body.

The third point of contention for Alkalaj is that Schmidt imposed amendments to the Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina using two different census results, one from 1991 and the other from 2013, stating that his decision shows the intention to ensure unlimited participation in government for the HDZ BiH, collaborating on this with neighboring Croatia.

He also blamed Schmidt for allegedly planning and doing all this in cooperation with the Croatian government. He also accused him of selectively implementing judgments of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"It has become more than obvious that the role of the current HR is to destabilize the country in favor of one of the neighboring countries, as well as some of his international mentors, but to the detriment of BiH and its citizens. I use this opportunity to emphasize that Bosnia and Herzegovina supports the institution of the HR in accordance with the mandate given by the Dayton Peace Agreement, but that the activities of the incumbent HR have become a problem that should be resolved as soon as possible," stressed said Alkalaj.
