SARAJEVO, October 26 (FENA) - Chairman of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and former US ambassador to our country, Thomas Miller, visited the Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina today, where he met with members of the Board of Directors of the Institute.

The focus of the meeting was the analysis of the results achieved so far in the process of searching for missing persons, as well as projects whose implementation is to come in the coming period.

Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mujo Hadžiomerović, said that, when it comes to the process of searching for missing persons, Bosnia and Herzegovina has achieved results that have not been recorded in any country in the world so far.

"Almost 80 percent of missing persons have been found so far. More than 24,500 missing persons were exhumed, identified and handed over to their families. Such results have not been recorded anywhere in the world, so the merits also belong to ICMP. More than 30,000 reports of missing persons have been verified so far. However, we are still looking for 7,597 missing persons and there is a lot of work ahead of us," stated Hadžiomerović.

He added that the biggest problem in the process of searching for the missing still remains the lack of accurate information about the locations of the graves, as well as that it is being tried to overcome this with new projects in which, unfortunately, the support of the state is lacking. This is precisely why, said Hadžiomerović, the further support and assistance of ICMP as a co-founder of the Institute is of crucial importance.

"We are working on obtaining funds for the training of cadaver dogs, which have already proven to be very successful in the search for remains. We also desperately need the latest technology, that is, scanners that could help us in the search and in determining the micro-locations of graves," he said.

Thomas Miller, among other things, pointed out that ICMP, regardless of the opening of new fronts and events in the world, will always support and do everything possible for BiH.

"BiH is extremely important to us and not only because of the fact that a large number of missing persons are still being sought. You have achieved incredible success, which can actually be a model for what is happening in many countries of the world: Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Canada, and Colombia. Your best export product is the system and methodology of searching for missing persons. ICMP will always provide you with unreserved support," said Miller.

After the meeting, Miller also visited the premises of CEN (Central Registry of Missing Persons), where he was informed about the method of storing and keeping all available documentation related to all verified cases of missing persons," the MPI BiH announced.
