SARAJEVO, October 19 (FENA) - President of the Federation of BiH, Marinko Čavara, expressed his satisfaction that the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament concluded the election of judges to the FBiH Constitutional Court and appointed three judges - Ajša Softić (Bosniak), Mirko Milićević (Croat) and Branimir Orašanin (Serb).
“Much has been taken out of context today, I said that the procedure is clearly defined by the Constitution, which defines that the President of the Federation of BiH appoints the judges to the Constitutional Court of the FBiH on the proposal of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and, with the consent of the Vice Presidents of the FBiH, proposes to the House of Peoples for confirmation,” said Čavara.
Based on this appointment, he points out, the Council for Vital National Interest is staffed and the Constitutional Court can work and has a quorum for work.
He reminded that the vice presidents of the Federation, Melika Mahmutbegović and Milan Dunović, gave their consent to the list of three appointed judges, but that they did not agree on the selection of the fourth judge, Dubravko Čampara.
“They said that they are ready to give consent to three candidates, given that the procedure cannot continue any further and that they would end up in a situation where we do not have a Constitutional Court, I made a decision that contains three, not four names,” said Čavara.
Given that the proposal for the fourth judge has not been submitted to the House of Peoples, the MPs will decide on the highest-ranked candidate from the list of candidates of the HJPC in the continuation of the session.
