SARAJEVO, September 14 (FENA) - Representatives of several international organizations presented today in Sarajevo the beginning of the implementation of the project called "Strengthening trust and cohesion in the communities of Bosnia and Herzegovina", which aims to promote a more positive environment.

The Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the OSCE have pooled resources in order to work on the promotion of local communities that work to build trust and preserve peace with the slogan "We can do better with a little good will".

Head of the EU Delegation, Johann Sattler, underlined that it is a project for which 3.5 million euros have been allocated, which will strengthen communities and build trust.

He added that the project is being launched during an election campaign in which messages that divide people and do not focus on what unites people in this country are noticeable.

“Nevertheless, during my trip through BiH, I saw that people from different layers of society focus on what brings them together and show that it can be done differently. That is why this will be a success story with positive examples of such practice,” added Sattler.

UN Resident Coordinator in BiH Ingrid Macdonald says that the project will provide support to civil society and increase positive interaction between and within communities and promote positive stories from local communities and civil society.

She said that there are also the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) that will invest funds since this is a time of numerous challenges in which it is important to invest in peace building and reconciliation.

Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Susan Penska, underlined that it is important to promote such practices, since unity and trust are often lacking, especially in the period before elections, when political leaders resort to the use of divisive language in order to achieve their goals.

Head of the Council of Europe Office, Bojana Urumova, says that this is precisely the area that requires continuous work, which is why it is necessary to give greater visibility to those who promote ideas that mean reconciliation.
