SARAJEVO, September 8 (FENA) - The Managing Director of Elektroprivreda BiH Admir Andelija and the Director of the Office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for BiH Manuela Naessl signed today in Sarajevo the mandate letter for the Project for the conversion of the Block 3 of Tuzla Thermal Power Plant (TPP) into a plant that is based on wood biomass.
In a letter, the EBRD confirmed its interest in considering participation in the Block 3 Conversion Project, which currently uses coal as an energy source for production, into a combined thermal and energy plant based on wood biomass through the provision of long-term financing, in the form of a corporate loan in the amount of up to EUR 50 million, and which will depend on the results of further assessment of the Project.
Andelija stated that Elektroprivreda BiH has decided to supply the Tuzla Canton with thermal energy from an environmentally acceptable energy source in the long term.
He added that electricity production will continue there and about 80 workers will be retained.
Naessl pointed out that they are assisting Elektroprivreda in preparing a feasibility study that will determine the sustainability and longevity of these activities.
She stated that this is all part of the broader effort to decarbonize BiH and to make that process sustainable, to ensure the production and even the cultivation of biomass for the production of electricity.
