SARAJEVO, August 25 (FENA) - Director of the Institute for Public Health of the FBiH, dr. Siniša Skočibušić believes that the current epidemiological situation in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina indicates that the next wave of the Covid pandemic will not be of the same scale as the previous ones, but also warns of uncertain autumn and the importance of individual protection measures.

"We are currently in the sixth wave of the pandemic. A large number of people are infected, and we continue to see an increase in the number of people receiving hospital treatment due to COVID-19, although the clinical state of the patients is now significantly milder compared to the earlier period. This comforts us that the pandemic will not be at the same intensity as it was before, with the fact that we don't know exactly what it will hit in the fall," stressed Dr. Skočibušić.

He reminded that individual protection measures are still in force, such as the proper wearing of a mask over the mouth and face (especially where several people are staying in the same space, as well as the fourth dose of vaccination for people over 60 and immunocompromised patients, avoiding large gatherings, personal hygiene as well as ventilation of rooms.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 763 samples were registered with the Public Health Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which 205 were positive for SARS-CoV-2. New cases were registered in all the cantons in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, except in Canton 10. In the same period, two deaths were reported in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Sarajevo Canton.

A total of 1,316,096 samples have been tested so far, and SARS-CoV-2 has been confirmed in 261,227 people. The total number of deaths in the territory of the Federation of BiH is 8,999.
