SARAJEVO, July 19 (FENA) - One year ago, the former high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valentin Inzko, imposed changes to the Criminal Code, which prohibits the denial of genocide and the glorification of war criminals. President of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, Murat Tahirović, considers that a year since its entry into force, that law has produced results in terms of preventive action.

“Inzko's law on the prohibition of denial of genocide and glorification of war criminals gave results. Its effects are seen every day,” Tahirović said in a statement for FENA.

He said that cases of denial of genocide have been drastically reduced both through the media and on social networks. The fact is that in the media this reduction is drastic, even around 90 percent, there is less occurrence of denial of genocide and other war crimes, because that law also applies to other war crimes.

“On the other hand, the denial of genocide and other crimes through social networks is about 60 percent less than in the period before the law came into force. So the law certainly gave a result and we see the effects of its result almost every day,” points out Tahirović.

He believes that this is especially visible when it comes to commemorating the dates of suffering such as the genocide in Srebrenica, extermination in Prijedor and other places.

He pointed to the fact that there were reports of violations of this law to the BiH Prosecutor's Office, but this has not yet resulted in any specific indictment, let alone a verdict.

“With the entry into force of Inzko's law, a large number of associations and individuals submitted certain requests and reports to the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, demanding that certain persons who in that period denied genocide, but also other war crimes, should be adequately punished, based on the law promulgated by Inzko. However, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina had no reaction until a few days ago, the last reaction of the Prosecutor's Office was that it rejected one of the reports that related to the non-denial of genocide,” says Tahirović.
